Modular Airport Terminals
Modular airport terminals are fast-deployment aviation buildings that can be configured into passenger facilities, aviation logistics, hangars, aircraft maintenance, storage, administration, and other support services.
The modular design provides airports and aviation operators with a flexible, efficient, and cost-effective solution for terminal buildings, ground handling and logistics facilities, aircraft maintenance, and other supporting infrastructure.
HR Structures Australia provides design and construction of modular airport terminals for:
- Temporary and permanent passenger facilities, including international and domestic check-in areas, security screening areas, arrivals and departures halls, and waiting rooms
- Baggage handling facilities including conveyors, sorters, baggage storage, and turnaround areas
- Aviation logistics, warehouse, and freight facilities
- Aircraft and vehicle storage facilities
- Ground handling facilities including fuel storage and dispensing
- Equipment storage and maintenance facilities
- Hangars, large-span and standard, for general maintenance, heavy maintenance, and repair
- General aviation facilities including general aviation terminal, FBOs, fuel facilities, and ground handling services
What Are the Benefits of Modular Airport Terminals?
Modular airport terminals can be designed and built to meet specific needs and can be completed and operational quickly and efficiently.
HR Structures Australia can provide a turnkey solution to airport terminal requirements.
Modular terminals enable airports to:
- Respond quickly to increasing passenger numbers and terminal development whilst maintaining day-to-day operations
- Have a temporary or permanent terminal solution that is easy to relocate or expand
- Incorporate the latest technology and designs whilst still being cost-effective
- Construct large, open-plan spaces and complex infrastructure configurations within a constrained timeframe
- Reduce impact and disruption to airport operations and provide safe working environments
What Kind of Airport Facilities Can Be Created Using Modular Airport Terminal Buildings?
Modular airport terminal structures can be used to create any number of airport facilities. Some common examples include:
- Temporary or permanent passenger terminals and check-in zones
- International and domestic arrivals and departures facilities
- Security screening areas
- Baggage handling facilities and stores
- Ground handling and cargo facilities
- Logistics and warehousing
- Automotive and general equipment storage and maintenance
- Hangars for general maintenance, heavy maintenance, and repair
- General aviation terminal and general aviation operations (FBOs)
- Fuel storage and dispensing facilities, including refuelling points
Featured Project: Auckland Airport
The Zone T temporary terminal facility at Auckland Airport was a complex series of modular spaces that were developed to support the major redevelopment of the International Terminal Building.
NZ Temporary Structures (part of the HR Structures Australia group) provided a complete demountable terminal that comprised 8 x 20ft (24m) wide by 40ft (12m) long module units arranged side by side to form the check-in and security screening areas.
A further 4 x 20ft (24m) wide by 40ft (12m) long modules were provided for the bag drop area and customs declarations.
The facility also included a separate demountable aircraft entrance and exit area.
The entire facility was completed and operational within 4 weeks.
How Does Manufacturing Enable Faster Aviation Expansion?
Unlike traditional construction, HR Structures’ approach is centred on off-site manufacturing and prefabrication, allowing for faster delivery timelines and consistent product quality.
Manufacturing advantages include:
- Precision-engineered components produced in controlled environments
- Reduced on-site labour through prefabricated systems
- Scalable production capacity for large or multi-site projects
- Efficient logistics and global supply capability
This manufacturing-led approach ensures that structures are ready for deployment quickly while maintaining strict quality standards.
Airport Renovation with Modular Structures
HR Structures’ modular systems are manufactured for use across:
- Terminal expansions and passenger processing facilities
- Security and arrivals infrastructure
- Cargo handling and logistics hubs
- Aircraft hangars and maintenance environments
- Ground operations and support facilities
Their versatility makes them suitable for regional, international, and high-demand aviation projects worldwide.

Aircraft Hangars
Designers build Hangar Structures with high arch roofs. These roofs can span from 10m to 60m. This design gives enough space for helicopters, gliders, and large aircraft.
These Hangar Structures have a strong aluminium frame and a fireproof PVC cover. They offer durability and allow customisation to handle very high wind speeds.
